Corona Virus Scams

Scoundrels are tricking the public by scaring them with the coronavirus outbreak. With our country currently facing the challenges of the ongoing outbreak, we must also be mindful of those who are using the current disaster to benefit themselves.
Since the early stages of last year, there have been several reports of scams related to the Coronavirus.
Since February of 2020, more than 90 reports of scams involving the coronavirus have been filed by Norton Intelligence.

Some of the scams that have already been reported attempt to trick recipients into disclosing personal information by using email or text messages that pretend to be an important update on the coronavirus. Posing as legitimate organizations, such as the World Health Organization and the Department of Health, or legitimate businesses, such as travel agencies and telecommunications companies, scammers have begun to pose as officials or businesses in order to con potential victims.
Other scams are e-commerce shops that have limited-run, in-demand products for sale, such as face masks. However, when you purchase the products, they are never delivered.

Some scams claim to have a cure for the coronavirus, and claim that their cure has already been discovered. As of the 16th March 2021, there is currently no known cure or vaccine for the coronavirus. It is suggested that you check out the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) or the World Health Organization (WHO) to find out more about scam reports that may pertain to the coronavirus.

We anticipate even more scams to emerge relating to the coronavirus, so please let your friends and family know. Wishing everyone safety during this turbulent time.
